Regular planning and thinking time is your key to a successful business
It’s Monday morning – the start of another week.
A week full of appointments and working sessions, to-do lists and other actions that need attention. It’s all about growing the business – and if the business is not growing it’s dying…
It’s said that if you want to build a great business, entrepreneurs like us, need to follow the formula for success. This formula is as follows:
Success = Dream x Goal x Plan x Action
If, like me, you look at this and say well that looks easy, I suggest we get right into it.
So, let’s start with the easy one – My Dream
- Can you unpack the dream and make it real?
- Have you taken the time to set those ‘big, hairy, audacious’ goals for the next three to five years?
- Do you have enough clarity to communicate your dream to your team so that they are inspired to help you reach it?
When you start with dreams, you would want to make them a reality. Yes?
My Goals are the key to a successful business
Setting ‘smart’ goals is an important next step.
The goal is all about the reason you started the business. You, however, need to ensure that your team is inspired, motivated and willing to help you reach your goal. So, getting clarity is truly important.
Have you ever thought of using a vision board for your personal goals?
This may be the device you need to get you going, because it’s packed full of emotions and expressive pictures reflecting how you would like your life to be.
Next comes My Plan
We are all very good at drawing up plans – and when the first plan doesn’t work, we simply draw up the next one, and the next…
I believe you really need a plan with clear milestones and then you go all out to meet them. And if they are not met, I suggest you take responsibility and hold your team accountable.
Perhaps the most important aspect of any plan is that it must be communicated to all the staff. If you want everybody pulling in the same direction, they must all know where you are heading.
You must take the time to communicate it to your managers, to your team, and to all the stakeholders that matter
Finally address My Action
Perhaps I should have named this section as, My Team.
Yes, you can do a lot but if you want to get there faster you need a team that knows what is expected, and what must be done. Massive action leads to massive results and you need a team of people to help you.
They key to run a successful business:
- time to think
- planning time
- time to communicate the plan to a willing team that will execute the plan.
